SINTEF attended the innovation conference Technoport at Trondheim. There, we had the opportunity to present SOCRATIC and discuss the usage of technology for social innovation with innovators from Norway and abroad.
Technoport is between Europe’s top innovation conferences. It draws a mix of innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, investors and policy makers. This year’s theme was «The Human Factor» and it strongly highlighted the need of having users as part of the innovation process. The different presentations stressed the importance of understanding user needs for building technology that effectively solve social problems. Besides that, innovators signalled that for getting their innovation right they needed many iterations of testing and refining theirs products. This is indeed the cornerstone of the SOCRATIC methodology.
Among this year’s speakers, the UN Women’s program director Maria-Noel Vaeza presented the importance of technology to facilitate gender equality. We had the opportunity to introduce her to SOCRATIC. She found the platform concept interesting and, as a follow-up, we plan to provide her more information about the project. Both her and others with whom we talked were all looking forward to see the SOCRATIC platform in action at the end of June.
